Product Description

The deep roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. Planting vineyards in Rutherford with grafted, phylloxera-resistent French vines, the Cabernet Sauvignon that de Latour crafted from these grapes gave the world a taste of California's promise as a world-class winemaking region. In 1938, de Latour hired the young Russian-French enologist, Andre Tchelistcheff. Today, Beaulieu continues to turn to innovative practices. Most recently, they completed a new state-of-the-art winery within one of their original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional wine.

Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry 2011 Tasting Notes

The low-yields of an exceptional cool vintage gave our 2011 Reserve Tapestry its refined elegance, while five Bordeaux-heritage varietals contributed layer-upon-layer of flavor complexity. This is a wine that shows the artistry of the winemaker. Jeffrey chose Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc for the wine’s core of briary blackberry and cassis expression and its firm tannin structure. He then added Merlot for plush mid-palate texture and a hint of cherry. Petit Verdot and Malbec complete the blend with nuances of ripe plum, rose, forest loam and graphite.

"Tenshən" in Holiday Planning?!
Roederer Estate Cristal Brut 2004
If ever there was an appropriate time to have "Tenshən" in one's life - this is the kind of "Tenshən" that is appropriate!

Allow this Tenshən by Joey Tensley and Alex Guarachi to ease the real tension created by the holidays - and ENJOY!
Product Description
"Tensley Wines owner and winemaker Joey Tensley and TGIC founder, vintner and CEO Alex Guarachi announce the launch of tenshen, a new red Rhône varietal blend from Santa Barbara County AVA. Through tenshen, Tensley and Guarachi collaborate to capture the unique Santa Barbara County regional expressions of Rhône varietals, as harvested at the perfect moment of ripening.  Joey Tensley has a strong following for his acclaimed Santa Barbara County boutique wine label, Tensley Wines. Alex Guarachi, a winemaker in his own right with Guarachi Family Wines, has grown his import, marketing and product development company, TGIC, to become the second largest importer of South American wines in the US over $10.  Guarachi and Tensley share a kindred spirit in their passion for wine and love for family, friends and soccer. They have each independently carved a unique path in the lexicon of winemaking. Now, the two notable industry figures join together to pursue that which is most elusive of all wine characteristics: Tension." - Winery Notes

Tensley "Tenshən" 2013 Reviews

"Offers a fresh, lively array of complex flavors, extending from ripe, juicy plum and black cherry to more subtle tar, rose petal and dried herb. Impressive too for its supple texture and length. Syrah, Grenache, Petite Syrah and Merlot. Drink now through 2023." - 92, Wine Spectactor

Tensley "Tenshən" 2013 Tasting Notes

"Tenshən is a play on words that nods to winemakers Joey Tensley and Alex Guarachi’s winemaking acumen and the tension that occurs when harvesting. Tenshən’s thought provoking Rhône blends are tenacious and alluring. The reds exhibit brooding dark fruit that is accented by Santa Barbara spice and completed by a mouthwatering finish." - Winemaker Notes

Stonestreet "Bear Point" Chardonnay 2011 Reviews

"Orange blossoms, nectarines, white flowers and honey all flesh out in the 2011 Chardonnay Bear Point. Another wine that manages to be both rich but not ponderous, the 2011 Bear Point blossoms in all directions as the fruit opens up in the glass. A creamy, highly expressive finish rounds things out in style. The Bear Point is made from the 'Peter Michael' Chardonnay clone, which is believed to have originated on this property!" - 92, Robert Parker

Stonestreet "Bear Point" Chardonnay 2011 Tasting Notes

"The Bear Point Chardonnay exhibits a powerful floral element in this vintage, with lemon blossom and jasmine backed by apricot and kumquat flavors. The palate is marked by lushness at the forefront, a generosity that’s balanced by all that exuberant fruit and a savory character that frames the wine through a lengthy finish." - Winery Notes

WHOA - Thanksgiving is ONLY 10 days away!  How did that happen?!

Unsure about what to serve at Thanksgiving Dinner?  ShopUncorked.com certainly doesn't blame you!  What other meal of the year do you have to accommodate acidic cranberries, savory turkey and mashed potatoes along with green bean casserole topped with onions?  Rarely.

Our suggestion?: Embrace a pink wine - be selective while doing so, but Roses are versatile enough to pair with most foods.  Find a good one and you'll be hero of the day (10 days from RIGHT now!)!

Product Description

"Juvé y Camps has been a family run company for three generations and has garnered an international reputation. Over two hundred years ago, Joan Juvé Mir, a bold and enterprising vine grower with ideas way ahead of his time, laid the foundations of what would become the family firm.
He began the task which was carried on by his son, Antoni Juvé Escaiola, who, amongst other challenges, had to confront the effects of the terrible phylloxera plague. Advocating replanting, with other leading figures of the Penedes, he led a drive to restore the vineyards and to rebuild the wine production of the region.
A man respected and loved by his contemporaries, his example encouraged his son, Joan Juvé Baqués, to build the family's first winery. He married Teresa Camps Farré, an exceptional woman and an enthusiastic supporter who inspired her husband to launch, in 1921, the first sparkling wine under the "Juvé" brand. It was made in the underground cellars beneath the family home in San Sadurní d'Anoia." - Winery Notes

Juvé y Camps Cava Brut Rose N/V Tasting Notes

Brut Rosé Juvé y Camps is produced from Pinot Noir grapes grown in the Feixa 1 vineyard at the Espiells estate. The free run juice is allowed a brief maceration on the skins.
The wine is of a pretty, deep pink color. On the nose there are both floral and berry fruit notes in perfect harmony. Long bottle aging – 3 years -has brought balance, length and weight while retaining freshness and vivacity.

Stay tuned for Uncorked Holiday Boxes to be announced after the holiday.

In observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday, Tuesday, November 25th will be the last day for shipping.  Uncorked will be closed on Thursday, November 27th and Friday, November 28th.

WOW: Wine of the Week

Sailor's Grave Red Blend

Chandon Nautical Summer
Mark your calendar's for Mondays: ShopUncorked.com will be unveiling a new product every week from now until year end - now is the time to discover a new wine!

Sailor's Grave Red Blend is the perfect gift or conversation piece as evidenced by its modern label.  Bring this one to a friend's house or into your own home and get the conversation started!

Product Description

"Michael Pozzan and Richard Bruno, of Michael Pozzan Wines, are the minds behind Sailor's Grave. Highly respected in the world of wine, Michael has dedicated himself to producing high-quality Napa and Sonoma Valley wines in the Italian style of his heritage: wines of rich fruit, excellent character and exceptional value. Richard Bruno decided to put a semiprofessional soccer career on hold in order to pursue his own passionate interest in wine. A well-played career move, Bruno now has 20 years of successful winemaking endeavors under his belt. Together, they have produced this intensely evocative Napa Valley blend. With a small case production of 900, 2010 was the first vintage.
Sailor's Grave is an ode to Michael's late grandfather who was an ex first officer in the Merchant Marines, a former staff member of the Sailor's Union in Oakland, CA in the late 1940's and a tattoo enthusiast. "Sailor's Grave" was a common tattoo around that time for seamen depicting a ship sinking below the image of an Eagle with the American flag. The label incorporates his own tattoos as well as his initials "BP" and his birth and death dates in roman numerals on his arms. The nurses represent "The Rose of No Man's Land" an ode to nurses that help the wounded on the battlefield during WWII and represent life and death on an open and unforgiving sea." - Winery Notes

Sailor's Grave Red Blend 2010 Tasting Notes

"The aromas are well-defined with concentrated cassis and ripe black cherry, backed by mocha and toasted vanilla notes. On the palate, this full-bodied tannic Cabernet-based blend has a firm mid-palate presence and cellar-worthy potential. As the spectrum of flavors unfolds, the huckleberry and raspberry give way to a complex mocha, coffee, vanilla matrix - all balanced under the fruit notes, giving the wine a tingly and silky finish. This is a serious wine - a truly wonderful splurge.  Try it with a mushroom-encrusted filet mignon served with sun-dried tomato compote and a side of roasted blue potatoes with sea salt. This wine, when cellared properly, will drink well through 2030." - Winemaker Notes
Blend: 90% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Syrah, 2% Merlot, 2% Malbec

Product Description

"The inhabitants of these lands have know the taste of good wine since history can remember.  In ancient times a Roman colony was established here.  The Romans had an immense influence on the traditions of local winemaking and consumption.

The glorious moments of our history:

After Bessarabia was joined to Russia, by a decree of the local authorities, issued in 1827, in Purcari was created the first specialized winemaking company.  As early as 1847, during an agricultural exhibition held in Bessarabia, Purcari wines were exhibited for the first time and tasters were impressed by its delicate bouquet and dense, full taste.

The newest step in the history of Purcari wines starts in 2003, when the "Vinaria Purcari" company was created.  The main purpose of creating the company was to revive the production of unique, historic wine blends.  The Purcari production facility was fully revived and upgraded, and the old cellars, built as far back as 1827, were renovated.  Today the cellars are among the oldest and most famous in Moldova." - Winery Notes

Product Description

"My goal as winemaker is to craft intensely structured, balanced wines expressing their vineyard origin.  I believe the soil, climate and grapes in the Northwest afford the opportunity to make wines that rank among the best in the world.  I have been fortunate in my 25 years as Seven Hills' winemaker to have developed a continuity of vineyard sources, harvesting from the same rows and same vines each year from both our own and our grower partners' sites.  This precious resource allows us to know the nuance and particularities of each vine, and enables us to craft wines reflecting each vineyard's full potential." - Winemaker Notes

What is "SLH?"

Chandon Nautical Summer

What you may ask does "SLH" stand for?  Try this Pinot Noir from Hahn and you'll be first to inform all fellow wine lovers of YOUR new found love for the "Santa Lucia Highlands!"  AND, at a special price of just $19.48 per bottle this week (reduced from $25.99), this is bottle worthy of stocking up for future consumption (remember, Pinot Noir is the perfect compliment to most fare!).

Though it may be too soon to share - Hahn SLH Pinot Noir has earned its place at the ShopUncorked.com Thanksgiving Table for 2014!

Product Description

"The 2012 vintage was among the best for Pinot Noir in recent years. Consistent, moderate temperatures before and during harvest ensured that the grapes were able to ripen gradually on the vine. This long, extended growing season produced fruit with incredible intensity.  To make our 2012 SLH Pinot Noir, our winemakers selected fruit from clones that yielded the most expressive aromas and flavors. After the fruit was hand-picked and sorted, it underwent a three-day cold soak in open top fermenters. We then aged this Pinot Noir for 11 months in a selection of French oak barrels. When the wine was ready to be blended, our winemaker Paul Clifton chose the barrels he felt best exemplified the aromas, flavors and structure of the Santa Lucia Highlands." - Winery Notes

Hahn "SLH" Pinot Noir 2012 Tasting Notes

This Pinot Noir offers soft tannins, delicious plum and cherry aromas and flavors, a hint of allspice and an underpinning of the earth itself. Without a doubt, its defining feature is its irresistibly silky, velvety texture.

Blinded by the Light - Illumination Sauvignon Blanc!
Line 39 Wines
Just as you thought that Quintessa was a one-trick pony; the likes of which were only available to red wine drinkers - ShopUncorked.com is pleased to share that those same Wine Makers have honed their focus to produce Illumination Sauvignon Blanc!

Product Description

"From the makers of Quintessa - 2012 saw a relatively dry spring and summer which created ideal weather conditions for bloom resulting in a great vintage. Harvest stretched over five weeks beginning on August 30th at Quintessa and concluding on October 4th in the cooler hillside vineyards. The grapes were hand-picked and gently whole-cluster pressed, minimizing oxygen contact with the juice, thus retaining more aromatic floral and fruit characters. The juice was fermented with half native yeast in a variety of vessels. French oak barrels (7% new) bring a depth to the body and a hint of oak spice while acacia barrels add a complex floral spice on the nose. Egg-shaped concrete fermenters add richness to the palate while retaining fresh aromas and stainless steel barrels maintain the purity of the fruit. Semillon adds a round mouth-feel to complement the vibrant, tangy Sauvignon Blanc. Lees stirring enhances weight and complexity." - Winery Notes

Illumination Sauvignon Blanc 2012 Tasting Notes

"The 2012 Illumination is aromatic with white peach, Meyer lemon and floral, jasmine notes. Soft tropical fruit flavors lead to a lush mouth-feel with a clean finish enhanced by mineral notes." - Winemaker Notes

August Briggs Features
Line 39 Wines

Please welcome back August Briggs to ShopUncorked.com for a limited time!  This brand needs very little introduction as their quality is consistent and well respected...without further ado...

Winery Information

"August Briggs Winery is an 'employees turned owners' winery in Napa Valley dedicated to producing very limited quantities of great wines from carefully selected vineyards across  Napa and Sonoma counties. Founder Joe Briggs brings a quarter-century of winemaking knowledge in working with quality grape growers to produce our signature style of balanced wines with intense fruit character.
Our eclectic portfolio includes single vineyard and appellation bottlings of Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petite Sirah, Pinot Meunier, Zinfandel, Chardonnay and Charbono – each one an expression of restrained winemaking and site signature." - Winery Notes

August Briggs Leveroni Vineyard Carneros Chardonnay 2011 Tasting Notes

"This wine opens with aromas of pineapple and mango, with a touch of vanilla.  On the palate, the texture is rich from barrel fermentation, but enough acidity remains to keep it fresh on the palate, with flavors of pear, pineapple and honeydew melon." - Winery Notes

August Briggs Monte Rosso Cabernet 2009 Tasting Notes

"Our 2009 'Monte Rosso Vineyard' Cabernet Sauvignon is another winner from this famed vineyard. The wine is supple and creamy-textured, with ripe plum and cherry flavors that show touches of dried herbs." - Winery Notes

August Briggs Monte Rosso Cabernet 2010 Tasting Notes

"The 'Monte Rosso' or 'Red Mountain' vineyard is so named for its rich, red volcanic soils. Nestled in the majestic Mayacamas Mountain range, almost 1,000 feet above the Sonoma Valley floor, this steep and rugged mountain vineyard has a desirable western exposure that produce intense, decadent, powerful wines." - Winery Notes

WOW: How do you define "Syn3rgy?"

WOW: Wine of the Week

How do you define "Syn3rgy?"
Line 39 Wines
The definition of "Synergy" is as varied as the number of people asked to define it.  But for the purposes of this WOW and truly excellent wine, this week ShopUncorked.com favors the definition by the two founders of B Cellars!

Product Description

"The two passionate wine collectors-turned-vintners Jim Borsack and Duffy Keys, who founded B Cellars, made a great choice when they hired young phenom Kirk Venge to be their winemaker. The son of Napa winemaker Nils Venge, Kirk is considered one of the area’s rising stars and has all the advantages one might expect of an insider scion-connections to great growers and access to fruit and information that might elude someone new to the valley. B Cellars is the kind of project that might entice any young winemaker looking to burnish his résumé, though. It’s focused entirely on handcrafted, no-expense-spared Napa Valley wines. A blend of three single-vineyard Cabs, Syn3rgy is a new wine for B Cellars. While the team loves the expression of single vineyards, in this case they believe the whole surpasses the sum of its parts. Hours and hours of blending were required to get just the perfect wine, which only amounted to 200 cases." - Winery Notes

b Cellars "Syn3rgy" Cabernet 2010 Tasting Notes

"The dark, brooding nose suggests red currant, black currant, licorice and mocha.  Expressive ripe-fruit flavors and exquisitely etched fine, silky tannins characterize this Napa Cab." - Winery Notes

b Cellars "Syn3rgy" Cabernet 2010 Pairings

The B Cellars Syn3rgy’s intensity requires an entrée with ample substance and fat as a counterbalance. Look to simply flavored beef, lamb and game dishes, particularly those that are grilled or roasted. Accent ingredients like lentils, mushrooms and root vegetables will play up the wine’s earthy notes, while fresh herbs and leafy green vegetables will harmonize with its minty, herbaceous character. Outside of meat, look to meaty vegetables like eggplant and mushrooms to stand up to the wine.

WOW: A Place Called Kokomo...

WOW: Wine of the Week

A Place Called Kokomo...
Line 39 Wines
No, contrary to popular belief, this winery name was NOT inspired by The Beach Boys song.  This winery derives its name from the founder's hometown of Kokomo, Indiana!

"Perched on 120 acres of prime Dry Creek Valley east benchland vineyards known as Timber Crest Farms, Kokomo Winery concentrates on small production, single-vineyard wines. Started in 2004 with the production of a single vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Kokomo Winery focuses their terroir-driven philosophy on Sonoma County and its distinct appellations. Owner and Winemaker Erik Miller named the winery after his hometown of Kokomo, IN, and decided on a Coastal Cypress Tree for the logo to signify his move out west. Joined by his best friend from Purdue, Josh Bartels, as Kokomo's assistant winemaker, Erik partnered with legendary grower Randy Peters, who has nearly forty years of wine grape growing experience under his belt. The three have formed quite the successful alliance, as Kokomo Winery has now joined the elite boutique wineries of Sonoma County, gaining more 90+ ratings and Gold Medals with each anticipated release." - Winery Notes

Taste true inspiration from the Miller family and enjoy these two new wines to ShopUncorked.com for around $20 per bottle.

Kokomo Chardonnay 2012 Tasting Notes

"This Chardonnay has pineapple, green apple, and honeysuckle aromas.  The bright and fruit-forward mouth feel is followed by apple pie and vanilla with a clean finish." - Winery Notes

WOW: What is a Claret?

WOW: Wine of the Week

New Additions: What is a Claret?
Line 39 Wines
In the spirit of Bordeaux, this Napa Claret is sure to please even the most discerning of palates.  New flowers, new buds on trees and new additions to ShopUncorked.com...'tis the season!

ShopUncorked.com particularly likes this explanation from Dr. Vinny of Wine Spectator:
"Before 'claret' was the nickname for Bordeaux wines, it meant 'clear,' 'pale' or 'light-colored' wine ('claret' being derived from the Latin word for “clear”). This is back in the 14th and 15th centuries, when wines from Bordeaux were actually paler, almost like rosés. In the late Middle Ages, 'claret' also referred to a heated wine poured over a bag of spices.
The first known references to 'claret' as dark red Bordeaux wines were in the 1700s by the British trade. History buffs will recall that France and England were at war during this period, and it was right around then that the English started seeking out Portuguese wines to satisfy their thirst.
These days 'claret' is used as a generic way to refer to Bordeaux wines (or wines styled after Bordeaux) and the associated dark red color that’s also used to describe anything from nail polish to yarn."

Product Description

"Steltzner Vineyard is located in the Stags Leap District where we farm 30 acres of Cabernet Sauvignon, along with small amounts of Sangiovese, Malbec and Petit Verdot.  Our family has owned this property since 1965.  We currently make our wine at Folio Custom Crush and source only grapes from throughout Napa Valley to create our Claret blend." - Winery Notes

Steltzner Claret 2011 Tasting Notes

Beautiful full fruit balanced with dark toasted oak notes.  Classic Bordeaux blend with just enough Merlot and Cabernet Franc to give the underlying Cabernet finesse and grace.  Dark berry fruits with hints of cedar box on the finish.

WOW: New Additions - Ernesto Catena Selections

WOW: Wine of the Week

New Additions: Ernesto Catena Selections
Line 39 Wines

New flowers, new buds on trees and new additions to ShopUncorked.com...'tis the season!

ShopUncorked.com is THRILLED to bring two new wines from Ernesto Catena to our clients.  These two red wines are perfectly priced at just $12 each!

Ernesto Catena, the owner of Ernesto Catena Vineyards in Argentina, is the eldest son of Nicolás Catena of Catena Zapata. A 4th generation winemaker, Ernesto has traveled and lived around the world, and along the way has earned a Bachelors degree in Computer Science and Economy, a Master’s in Design in Milan and a degree in history in London. Defined by many as the "bohemian" side of the Catena family, Ernesto is a tireless and avid reader, painter, art collector, horseman, polo player and archer.

Product Description

"Ernesto Catena Selections are an expression of Ernesto Catena's intense passion for wine, Argentina, art, and life. A Mendoza native, Ernesto personally selects the fruit from the prestigious sites of Tupungato, La Consulta, Vistalflores, Altamira, Tunuyan in the Valle de Uco that is carefully crafted into wines of distinct character and typicity. Tahuan wines highlight Argentina's premier grape varieties, expressing seamless varietal character, enhanced by the microclimate of Mendoza. Structured and intense, Siesta wines capture the depth and complexity produced by the distinct combination of altitude, climate, and soil that define this exciting region which has been a great inspiration to international winemaking." - Winery Notes

Ernesto Catena Selections Tahuan Cabernet 2010 Reviews and Tasting Notes

"Good dark red.  Expressive aromas and flavors of redcurrant, plum, tobacco, licorice, chocolate and herbs.  Sweet and fresh on entry, then juicy and firmly built, showing excellent energy and lift (and a bit of unabsorbed CO2) and conveying an impression of solid extract.  Nicely balanced, honest cabernet with a firm spine of sweet tannins and noteworthy length." - 90, International Wine Cellar
A much softer, gentler, fruitier wine that can be enjoyed when only a year or two old, a blackcurrant juice feel, a vague whiff of milk chocolate, followed up by something ever so slightly salty on the palate.

Ernesto Catena Selections Tahuan Malbec 2011 Reviews and Tasting Notes

"A dense red, with terrific depth to the jammy blackberry, plum skin and fig paste notes, tightly woven with fine tannins and layers of mesquite, cocoa and spice. Drink now through 2017." - 90, Wine Spectator
The Tahuan Malbec opens to not quite a full purple color. On the nose the wine offers lots of toasty aromas, but then, after only a few minutes, the aromas of fresh and juicy red fruits -such as strawberry and cherry- take center stage. There are also intriguing hints of wild flowers and violets. It is a very well balanced wine in the mouth, delivering sweet, yet firm tannins, and with a soft and pleasant taste where all kinds of fruits freely express themselves.

WOW: Wine of the Week

Evolution Sparkling Wine!
Line 39 Wines
Spring is in the air and ShopUncorked.com wants to celebrate!  What better way than to feature a bottle of bubbles for this week's WOW?!  Well under $20 per bottle, this Oregon beauty is sure to delight!  Grab a bottle of these bubbles and let them uplift your spirit into Spring and the warmer weather to come!

Product Description

"The great sparkling wines of the world are blends or as the French would say, 'Assemblage,' of multiple grape varietals, from multiple vintages, with different oak treatments and differing levels of malolactic fermentation.  These wines are blended to make a complex sparkling wine that matches the taste profile desired by the winemaking team.  With this in mind, we have thought for many years that Evolution (a blend of nine white wines) would make an amazing base wine for the productions of a true, method champenoise, sparkling wine.  So here it is!" - Winery Notes

Sokol Blosser Evolution Sparkling N/V Tasting Notes

"Although it is made with Evolution White wine as its base, Evolution Sparkling takes on a new dimension. Designated as Brut, Evolution Sparkling comes across as drier than Evolution White even though it has the same amount of residual sugar. This happens because the bubbles and acidity make for a much more vibrant wine that dances on the palate. The aromatics are that of apricot, green apple, Bosc  pear, with hints of white peach and citrus.  The mouthfeel is slightly creamy from the secondary fermentation in the bottle with a light flintiness.  Dry on the pallet, it finishes crisp and clean."  - Winery Notes

WOW: Three is not ALWAYS a crowd...

WOW: Wine of the Week

Ridge "Three Valleys" Zinfandel: Three is not ALWAYS a crowd!
Line 39 Wines
Uncorked is taking this week to reintroduce a household favorite and recognized name: Ridge Winery!  Well known for their outstanding single vineyard Zinfandels, they too have a blended Zinfandel stemming from more than just one flagship vineyard.  As you will see below, this particular blend has come from seven (7) vineyards in all, proving that three (or seven!) is not ALWAYS a crowd!

Product Description

"The history of the Ridge Sonoma County Three Valleys began with the release of the 2001. The wine contains grapes from a number of Sonoma vineyards - this year, seven. We take great care in selecting the fruit, which is hand-harvested, then crushed and fermented at both Monte Bello and Lytton Springs. Unlike our single-vineyard wines, which reflect the distinctive character of each site, Three Valleys represents the blending of vineyards - winemaking - at it's finest. Zinfandel determines the wine's varietal character; old-vine carignane contributes bright fruit and acidity; petite sirah spice, depth of color, and firm tannins; grenache brings briary fruit and lively tannins. " - Winery Notes

Ridge "Three Valleys" Zinfandel 2011 Reviews

"Editor's Choice:  Ridge hews to a leaner, lower alcohol style than most California wineries these days, resulting in wines that aren’t blockbusters, but are complex and food-friendly. This bottling defines such a style. It’s dry and lithe in the mouth yet gently tannic, with suggestions of berry jam, bacon, grilled mushrooms and hints of balsamic and soy sauce." - 91, Wine Enthusiast

Ridge "Three Valleys" Zinfandel 2011 Tasting Notes

"Aromas of briar fruit, dried herbs, clay earth, and sweet oak. Fresh raspberry and cherry flavors together with savory oak spice. Medium bodied with moderate acidity, round tannins, and a lively finish." - Winery Notes
65% Zinfandel, 20% Petite Sirah, 9% Carignane, 3% Mataro, 2% Alicante Bouschet and 1% Grenache.

Sonoma Origin with Rhone Roots?  It's More Complicated...
Line 39 Wines
Trentadue is far more complicated than what initially meets the eye.

This wine has been perfected by an Italian family, imparting a Rhone feel from Sonoma County, CA.  Whew...now THAT is a complex family tree!

This wine benefits from three very distinct influences and shows the best of all three!

Product Description

"The Trentadue family arrived in Sonoma County long before their region gained a reputation as the Wine Country. Life-long, hands-on agriculturists, Evelyn and Leo Trentadue contributed significantly to the advancement of their region over the years. In 1959, the Trentadues decided to flee the developers encroaching on their apricot and cherry orchards in Sunnyvale, the area known today around the world as Silicon Valley. To preserve their way of life, these hard-working Italian ranchers purchased 208 acres of land in Sonoma County's then remote Alexander Valley." - Winery Notes

Trentadue Winery Old Patch Red "Lot 36" 2011 Tasting Notes

"The 2011 Old Patch Red blend#36 is predominately a Zin blended with Petite Sirah resulting in a very fruity and Rhone like wine. The wine has a dark red color with intense dark cherry aromas, blueberries and cherry cola as an immediate impression. With aeration nuances of vanilla, maple and cocoa are showing with slight dose of oak and toast. On the mouth the wine is fresh and juicy with youthful brightness, finishing long and fruity. Our 2011 OPR Lot# 36 is delicious now but it will reward your patience with 2-3 years of aging." - Winery Notes

There's Nothing Slow About This "Tortoise!"
Line 39 Wines
This "Tortoise" Creek is moving off the shelves quickly!  Make arrangements to order this Cabernet TODAY!

This Californian Cabernet is just $12 per bottle!  At that price, it is clear that this wine is moving fast!

Product Description

"Tortoise Creek is a range of very fine varietal wines from the Languedoc district of the South of France and California.
Tortoise Creek was created by a British couple, Mel and Janie Master who lived much of their lives in the wine business in the South of France as well as California. During their time in France, they developed close relationships with many of the top growers and winemakers in the Languedoc and have been producing wines from this area since 1990.
The concept with Tortoise Creek was to work more with the individual grower and less with the large cooperatives as they understood that the key to any good wine, whether it is from the Languedoc, California or any other wine region was low yields. With that in mind, Tortoise Creek wines have been selected and blended from growers who understand this philosophy. We work closely with our growers in California and France to hand craft our selections." - Winery Notes

Product Description

"The Finlayson family is synonymous with modern era winemaking in the Cape region.  Three generations of Finlayson's have played an important role in the Cape's modern wine industry.  Dr Maurice Finlayson, a pathologist originally from Inverness in Scotland started the family wine business at Hartenberg farm in Stellenbosch.  It was here that his son Walter started his career that would take him on to Blaauwklippen where he twice won the award of 'South African winemaker of the year.'  Walter then started and built up Glen Carlou in Paarl and was joined by his son David in 1994.  David qualified as a winemaker at Elsenburg Agricultural college in Stellenbosch as Dux student and then proceeded to travel the world gaining winemaking experience at first in Australia (Peter Lehmann Wines) and then in France at the world renowned Chateau Margaux.  In 2004, having sold Glen Carlou, David bought the farm Woodlands, a portion of the original Edgebaston farm, which is situated near the fringes of the town on the slopes of the Simonsberg facing North East through to South East.  It was decided to rename the farm and wines to Edgebaston as this was the area in England that his mother was born and raised in. " - Winery Notes

What do February, Valentine's Day and Hanna Cabernet all have in common?  They are all focused on the "heart" of matters!

February is National Women's Heart Health Month and what better way to honor that than to feature a red wine (best for your ticker!) and winery founded by a Cardiac Surgeon?!  Well, for Uncorked, there is no better way than to celebrate, educate and drink wonderful wines!

Product Description

"Hanna Winery was founded in 1985 by Dr. Elias Hanna, a world-renowned cardiac surgeon, who was eager to find a place in the country to continue the farming heritage of his upbringing in Syria. In the 1970s he realized his dream with the purchase of 12 acres in the Russian River Valley. Dr. Hanna’s oldest daughter, Christine, now runs the operations of the winery. Hanna owns 600 acres of land in the Sonoma County’s Russian River Valley, Alexander Valley and the Mayacamas Mountains, 250 of which are planted.
Under Christine Hanna’s guidance, the winery has evolved into an estate philosophy that blends the viticultural diversity of fruit cultivated in its four vineyard estates in three unique appellations. With the help of winemaker Jeff Hinchliffe, they craft award-winning wines, such as its Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc and Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon." - Winery Notes

Perfect Timing for Valentine's Day: Loveblock Pinot Gris!
Line 39 Wines
Just in time to make a special delivery to your loved one for Valentine's Day - Loveblock Pinot Gris from Kim Crawford!

This beautiful wine is perfectly priced to deliver as well...under $20 per bottle!

Product Description

"Loveblock Pinot Gris vines sit high above Marlborough’s Awatere Valley on the Loveblock Farm. The harsh environment that makes the Loveblock Farm ideal for Sauvignon Blanc – the strong winds that slow vine growth leading to very small berries with high aromatic concentration – also makes it suited to premium whites in general, including Pinot Gris. Loveblock is charged with creating the best wine to express this extraordinary place with its unique aspect.
Loveblock follows a deeply held belief of ethical farming which allows the wine to show its true and naked terroir. The Loveblock farm in the Lower Awatere sub region of Marlborough, is certified organic by BioGro New Zealand, the country’s leading organic certifier.
Where possible the grapes were machine harvested, a quarter of them had to be hand-picked due to weaker vines. The machine harvested fruit was transferred to the adjacent winery for processing where the grapes were destemmed and crushed before being pressed. The juice was then cold settled for 36 hours. Racked and warmed the juice was inoculated with organic yeast and then cool fermented until deemed in balance, when then fermentation was stopped. The wine was then racked, stabilized and filtered for bottling." - Winery Notes

Loveblock Pinot Gris 2011 Tasting Notes

Pale golden with hints of green.  Aromas bursting with a potpourri of yellow wildflowers underscored with ripe pear, lychee and Turkish Delight notes.  Bursts with additional layers of musk melon and almond flavors. Finishing dry with great fruitiness, minerality and length with a touch of lime.
