Product Description

"Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy, has founded a new Domaine (estate-owned vineyards) and Maison (a négociant, making wine with fruit from other growers). Nicolas is an old friend of Ernst Loosen, and we are extremely happy to have him join our import portfolio.
Domaine de Bellene is located in Beaune, the very heart of Burgundy. Nicolas now owns 60 acres of vineyards in several villages throughout the Côte d'Or. The vineyards have been farmed according to organic practices since 2006 and are now certified BIO. Vinification is minimalist in approach — no enzymes, cultured yeasts or acid adjustments are used, and filtration is avoided. Nicolas purchased the 16th century estate buildings in 2005 and is working to renovate them in as green a manner as possible. Environmental responsibility is being integrated into all aspects of the estate: buildings, vineyards, cellar work, energy conservation and generation, and packaging materials." - Winery Notes

Domaine Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Rouge 2010 Reviews

"This rich red is full of black cherry, violet and currant aromas and flavors, with a silky texture.  Suave and concentrated, offering fine harmony and a lingering finish of earth and mineral.  Drink now through 2019." - 90, Wine Spectator

Domaine Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Rouge 2010 Tasting Notes

The entry-level red Burgundy comes from vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The vines range in age from 56 to 88 years and are farmed sustainably. The major part (80%) of this wine is matured in barriques (15% of which is new oak) and the remainder is done in stainless steel. This maintains a pure style with bright fruit and a fine texture.

WOW: The Lighter Side of Italy, Falanghina!

WOW: Wine of the Week

The Lighter Side of Italy: Falanghina!

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
Over the last couple of weeks ShopUncorked.com has added and featured some heavier red wines to the site and our clients.  Now, we turn our attention to the lighter side and share another special find:  Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina.

Falanghina is an ancient Italian white grape and thought to be the grape variety behind Falernian, the most famous wine of Roman antiquity.  These vines thrive in volcanic soils and in the warm Mediterranean climate.  The varietal typically shows classic apple and pear flavors depending on where it is grown.

Product Description

"Campania’s Aglianico del Taburno DOC in the province of Benevento, is an excellent source of Aglianico – and at very attractive prices. The region, north of Naples at an elevation of 1,000 feet, has a long growing season, hot days and moderately cool nights. Volcanic soil supports the vines. The Aglianico from this area is fruit-driven, approachable, and ready to drink in the shorter term.  Cantina del Taburno is the leading producer in the zone." - Winery Notes

Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina 2012 Tasting Notes

At once crisp and deeply fruity, this is about as refreshing and enticing a Falanghina as we’ve ever seen.  You’ll find loads of pretty lemon, nectarine, and almond blossom aromas and flavors and a bright, citrusy finish with good underlying minerality. The wine is long on the palate and then even longer on the captivating finish.

Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina 2012 Pairings

Easy to drink on its own and simply brilliant with seafood or light poultry dishes.
