Product Description

The House was founded by Philippe Clicquot in 1772. Since its inception, Veuve Clicquot has been a specialist in Champagnes based on Pinot Noir, especially Rosé. In 1803, François Clicquot was married to Barbe-Nicole Ponsardin. Madame Clicquot was widowed just two years later. Veuve Clicquot (Veuve means widow in French) took over her husband's business. In 1810, the house took the name Veuve Clicquot Ponsardin. The way that she ran her company, from risky overseas ventures to startling technological innovations, changed Champagne forever. Her motto is still the guiding principle of our company – "Only one quality – the finest." In 1816, Mme. Clicquot invented the process, called rémuage or riddling, that removes the yeast from the bottle. She used holes cut in her kitchen table to perfect the method of slowly tilting and turning the bottles to gather the spent yeast in the neck of the bottle. Once settled it could be removed by freezing the neck in a brine of salt and water, removing it, and recorking.
The company was taken public in 1963, and merged with Louis Vuitton Moët Hennessey in 1986. Today, Jacques Peters is the chief winemaker at Veuve Clicquot, and was appointed cellar master in 1985. He has undertaken an ambitious program since this time to upgrade the grape sources, improve the vineyards, and improve the cellars and production facilities.

Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Reviews

"Hints of toast and biscuit accent lightly honeyed flavors of quince, apple blossom and peach in this fresh and balanced Champagne. There’s a stony underpinning, with a smoke-tinged finish. Drink now through 2013." - 90, Wine Spectator
"A full-bodied Champagne, this has been enriched by reserve wines to add depth and smoky lees intensity to its brisk, youthful elements. It's a satisfying Brut to serve with poached prawns." - 90, Wine & Spirits

Veuve Clicquot Brut Yellow Label Tasting Notes

Clicquot's signature non-vintage Brut is loved all over the world for its crisp, full flavors, consistent quality and celebratory yellow label. This classical dry Champagne is a blend of two-thirds black grapes (Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier) for body, balanced with one-third Chardonnay for elegance. It has a fine persistent sparkle and golden Champagne color.

Scary Good Wine AND Save the Date!

Bacchus Cabernet 2009

In the spirit of the looming Halloween celebrations, Uncorked is bringing you a frightfully good wine with a price tag that will not scare your budget.

Simple and understated in its black and white packaging, Bacchus Cabernet is a treat brought to us by David Gordon of Tribeca Grill, New York City.    At just $12.55 per bottle, this wine will likely be a new fixture in your everyday wine consumption.

Product Description

"David Gordon has been the Wine Director at Tribeca Grill since 1990. Several years ago, he began to use his contacts in Napa and Sonoma to source and produce wine under the Bacchus and Jeanne Marie (his wife) labels. Initially the small batches made were sold only at Tribeca Grill, Nobu and Montrachet. Producers such as Caymus, Lewis Cellars and Miner Family provided grapes and helped with the winemaking. As consumer interest grew, he decided to try and produce greater quantities and make the wine more available to retailers and other restaurants. There is great continuity on these wines now. Ripe and soft, easy to drink style blended with 20% Merlot." - Winery Notes

WOW: "There's a bit of a middle sister in us all."

WOW: Wine of the Week

Which Middle Sister Best Suits the Woman in YOUR life?!

Middle Sister Wines

"Erin Wassum is one of the inspirations for Middle Sister Wines. Sandwiched between an older sister and younger brother, and therefore sheltered from the demands of either role, Erin was free to re-invent herself on a regular basis. From fashionista to social butterfly to flower child to happy rebel, Erin loves trying things on for size (especially vintage stuff from the thrift shop).
For Erin, pink is really magenta...why have just one hair color when you can have three or four thrown in…short girls belong in stilettos…and wine makes life more delicious! The self-described heart of her family, Erin is independent, loyal, feisty, original and endlessly amusing—everybody has an Erin in their life. Middle Sister is dedicated to your "Erin"- and the Middle Sister attitude in all of us." -Winery Notes

These wines have fun and playful names like "Drama Queen," "Goodie Two-Shoes," Rebel Red" and more.  They are priced to please even the pickiest middle sister too.  Certainly these wines will adequately describe at least one woman in your life...if not more!  Thus proving that "There is a bit of a middle sister in all of us!"

WOW: Wine of the Week!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Bubbles, Bubbles, EVERYwhere!

Bubbles, bubbles everywhere!

In honor of the much anticipated Master's of Wine Annual Champagne Tasting rescheduled for this week (thanks Hurricane Irene!), bubbles of all origins and sizes are our feature this week!

Generally speaking, most American view Champagnes or Sparkling Wines as merely a celebratory libation.  Uncorked is out to change all of that!  No sound is quite as lovely as the "pop" from a pressurized bottle of bubbles.  It's also one way to ensure that all heads in a restaurant will turn in your general direction.

Proseccos and Cava's can be lovely accompaniments to spicy Asian dishes and sushi.  Sparkling Shiraz and Malbec have also staked their claim on the barbeque meat lovers.  And how do we tailgate at Uncorked?!  Why with 187ml bottles of Champagne of course!  This single serving is perfect for tailgate parties,  baby showers, wedding favors, movie theaters...need I go on?

But perhaps the best combination, and most timely application for Sparkling Wines or Champagne is as a partner to our beloved Thanksgiving Dinner.  Bubbles of the Rose stature perform exceedingly  well as Tom Turkey's partner.

WOW: "Wrongo Dongo" is Super Duper!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Fun Wine Names: "Wrongo Dongo" is Super Duper!

Wrongo Dongo

How can a quality wine for under $8 be anything close to "Wrongo Dongo?!"  This is 87 point rated wine from Wine Advocate is sure to be a new fall favorite of yours!

Monastrell has been gaining popularity produced as a single varietal from Spain but it is well known as Mourvèdre in Rhone-style blends.

This wine is PERFECT for the fall months to pair with spicy, weighty dishes.  If you are considering cuddling up with a hearty bowl of chili in the near future, THIS is the wine that you need to have poured in the glass next to your bowl!

Product Description

"This winery originated in 1916, when Juan Gil Giménez, great-grandfather of the present generation, started getting involved in the world of wine, building a winery in the heart of Jumilla. His son, Juan Gil Guerrero, dedicated his life to this world. But the ones who really consolidated the project were Juan Gil González and his brother Paco, the founder's grandsons. They forged an image of quality, efficiency and reliability which the present generation is trying to maintain and improve as much as possible.
At present, the Gil Vera family, Juan Gil Lencina's great-grandchildren, are the owners of Bodegas Juan Gil. They decided to start a new cellar on the property that the family owns in Jumilla, in order to get it adapted to the market. This new cellar is situated in "Término de Arriba" in the northwest of the city. It is so called because it is the highest point in Jumilla. It has been a winegrowing area for centuries and yields grapes of extraordinary quality." - Winery Notes

Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil "Wrongo Dongo" Monastrell 2010 Reviews

"Sporting a new label but stylistically unchanged, the 2009 Wrongo Dongo (a favorite expression of the legendary Jim Arseneault) is 100% Monastrell produced from estate vineyards. Deep crimson-colored with a pleasing nose of plum and blueberry, on the palate it has plenty of spicy fruit, an easy-going personality, and no hard edges. Drink this crowd-pleaser over the next 2-3 years." - 87, Wine Advocate

Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil "Wrongo Dongo" Monastrell 2010 Tasting Notes

Wrongo Dongo Monastrell offers rich notes of black cherry, raspberry and plum, backed by earthy flavors of fresh herb and tobacco. Light, firm tannins and pleasant acidity lead to spicy, peppery notes on the finish.

Bodegas Hijos de Juan Gil "Wrongo Dongo" Monastrell 2010 Pairings

Matched nicely with turkey tacos, should do well with other Mexican dishes, mild Indian cuisine, and simple fare such as burgers and barbecue chicken.
