Product Description

The deep roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were first planted back in 1900, when founder Georges de Latour noticed similarities with his native Bordeaux and declared the Napa Valley ideal for winemaking. Planting vineyards in Rutherford with grafted, phylloxera-resistent French vines, the Cabernet Sauvignon that de Latour crafted from these grapes gave the world a taste of California's promise as a world-class winemaking region. In 1938, de Latour hired the young Russian-French enologist, Andre Tchelistcheff. Today, Beaulieu continues to turn to innovative practices. Most recently, they completed a new state-of-the-art winery within one of their original buildings. The Georges de Latour Private Reserve Winery utilizes the latest technology in combination with time-honored traditions for the production of this exceptional wine.

Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry 2010 Reviews

"Glides along, offering an alluring mix of dense, dark blueberry, melted black licorice, grippy loamy earth and tannins that give the flavors traction. Impressive on the finish. This will appeal to those who like to chew on their reds. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec. Drink now through 2022." -90, Wine Spectator

Beaulieu Vineyard Reserve Tapestry 2010 Tasting Notes

Deep, briary blackberry and cassis character comes from the wine’s core of Cabernet Sauvignon. Black-cherry notes and a plush midpalate texture reveal a generous blending of Merlot, while Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec add violet, forest loam and graphite notes, as well as deep saturated color and rich texture. licorice, forest loam and graphite nuances, as well as deep hues and texture. Tapestry elegantly demonstrates the art of blending varietals to create a wine that combines multilayered flavors with supple, graceful tannin structure.

WOW: "Merlo's" Making Pinot?!

WOW: Wine of the Week

"Merlo's" Making Pinot?!

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010
Okay, my Californian experts - have you ever visited Hyampom Valley?  Hyampom Valley is a remote river valley hidden amongst the inter-coastal mountains of Southern Trinity County in Northern California.

Here, in Hyampom Valley reside the Merlo Family,   located along the banks of the wild and scenic South Fork of the Trinity River and at the base of South Fork Mountain, the longest contiguous ridge in the continental United States.
"Merlo Family Vineyards was founded on the concept that quality wine is grown in the vineyard. 'We are committed to making wines that are true expressions of the varietal fruit from which they are made,' says Ray Merlo. The unique growing season of the Hyampom Valley produces exceptional fruit with a high natural acidity resulting in very structured wines with deep, elegant, and yet, fresh, fruit flavors. A minimalist approach is taken in the wine cellar, allowing the wines to clearly reflect the varietal character and distinct terroir of Hyampom Valley. The Merlo's believe that the only way to truly make great wine is to grow great fruit." - Winery Notes

Product Description

"The Merlo Family Vineyards are located on the riverbanks of the South Fork of the Trinity River. Surrounded by 8,000 mountains, the vineyards are higher than most California vineyards, at an elevation of 1,250 feet. The valley floor has alluvial soils which allow excellent drainage and produce elegant yet complex flavors in the fruit. The surrounding hillside soils are shallow na#ve clay which create bold, well-structured wines. The late growing season allows for slower ripening and longer hang time, resulting in full, concentrated flavors." - Winery Notes

Merlo Family Pinot Noir 2011 Tasting Notes

"Dark, rich, garnet color and aromas of Bing cherries and lilacs. The palate presents fruit flavors of concentrated red currants and simpler fresh plums, and are well-integrated with the balanced influence of subtle new oak and minerals." - Winemaker Notes

Merlo Family Pinot Noir 2011 Pairings

The 2010 Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted hen, farm-crafted cheeses, or grilled salmon.

Keeping The Euro-Trend Strong: Vietti Barbera!

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010
Okay, okay...ShopUncorked.com will move Continents next week!  But for now, we are pleased to introduce our first true Italian Barbera!

And what better way to do that than with a tried and true family in it's fourth generation of winemaking: The Vietti winery.

Unsure if this is the wine for you to try?!  Just look at our tasting notes - it is PERFECT for these crisp fall days and nights and will pair perfectly with many dishes to satisfy our foodies!

Product Description

"The Vietti winery, now owned by the family's fourth generation, is based in the small medieval village of Castiglione Falletto.  In 1990, Alfredo and Luciana's son Luca joined the family business as winemaker after working at California's Simi Winery, Opus One, Long Vineyards and Bordeaux's Mouton-Rothschild.  Total production is currently 17,000 cases.  The estate's vines are from 10 to over 90 years old.  Designation: estate-bottled Barbera d'Alba DOC." - Winery Notes

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Reviews

"Bright, dark red. Sour cherry and flowers on the nose. Juicy and on the lean side, with good cut and thrust to its moderately ripe fruit flavors. Not at all a round style of dolcetto but really scrapes the palate clean. In a thirst-quenching style."  - 88, International Wine Cellar

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Tasting Notes

Ruby purple color with ripe red cherry aromas with hints of mineral and vanilla. A dry, medium bodied red wine with refreshing acidity (making it perfect to pair with food) and soft tannins, the Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne is well balanced with good integration of oak, good complexity and a finish of more red cherries.

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Pairings

Antipasti, rich salads, grilled seasoned vegetables, hearty soups, pastas or with breaded veal, pork, chicken with light sauces.

WOW: Wine of the Week

Burgundy Lovers Unite - Burgundy UNDER $20?!

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
Switching gears from the focus on Italian wines, this week ShopUncorked.com is THRILLED to bring our Burgundy lovers a selection sure to become your new household standard!

This is a brand new project from well renowned winemaker Nicolas Potel and NOW is the time to capitalize on this new product.  At UNDER $20 per bottle for this delightful product, how can you go wrong?!

Our advise:  Stock up now for Thanksgiving!  Yes...it IS right around the corner!

Product Description

"Nicolas Potel, the well-known and highly regarded winemaker in Burgundy, has founded a new Domaine (estate-owned vineyards) and Maison (a négociant, making wine with fruit from other growers). Nicolas is an old friend of Ernst Loosen, and we are extremely happy to have him join our import portfolio.
Domaine de Bellene is located in Beaune, the very heart of Burgundy. Nicolas now owns 60 acres of vineyards in several villages throughout the Côte d'Or. The vineyards have been farmed according to organic practices since 2006 and are now certified BIO. Vinification is minimalist in approach — no enzymes, cultured yeasts or acid adjustments are used, and filtration is avoided. Nicolas purchased the 16th century estate buildings in 2005 and is working to renovate them in as green a manner as possible. Environmental responsibility is being integrated into all aspects of the estate: buildings, vineyards, cellar work, energy conservation and generation, and packaging materials." - Winery Notes

Domaine Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Rouge 2010 Reviews

"This rich red is full of black cherry, violet and currant aromas and flavors, with a silky texture.  Suave and concentrated, offering fine harmony and a lingering finish of earth and mineral.  Drink now through 2019." - 90, Wine Spectator

Domaine Roche de Bellene Bourgogne Rouge 2010 Tasting Notes

The entry-level red Burgundy comes from vineyards in the Côte de Beaune and Côte de Nuits. The vines range in age from 56 to 88 years and are farmed sustainably. The major part (80%) of this wine is matured in barriques (15% of which is new oak) and the remainder is done in stainless steel. This maintains a pure style with bright fruit and a fine texture.

WOW: The Lighter Side of Italy, Falanghina!

WOW: Wine of the Week

The Lighter Side of Italy: Falanghina!

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
Over the last couple of weeks ShopUncorked.com has added and featured some heavier red wines to the site and our clients.  Now, we turn our attention to the lighter side and share another special find:  Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina.

Falanghina is an ancient Italian white grape and thought to be the grape variety behind Falernian, the most famous wine of Roman antiquity.  These vines thrive in volcanic soils and in the warm Mediterranean climate.  The varietal typically shows classic apple and pear flavors depending on where it is grown.

Product Description

"Campania’s Aglianico del Taburno DOC in the province of Benevento, is an excellent source of Aglianico – and at very attractive prices. The region, north of Naples at an elevation of 1,000 feet, has a long growing season, hot days and moderately cool nights. Volcanic soil supports the vines. The Aglianico from this area is fruit-driven, approachable, and ready to drink in the shorter term.  Cantina del Taburno is the leading producer in the zone." - Winery Notes

Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina 2012 Tasting Notes

At once crisp and deeply fruity, this is about as refreshing and enticing a Falanghina as we’ve ever seen.  You’ll find loads of pretty lemon, nectarine, and almond blossom aromas and flavors and a bright, citrusy finish with good underlying minerality. The wine is long on the palate and then even longer on the captivating finish.

Cantina Del Taburno Falanghina 2012 Pairings

Easy to drink on its own and simply brilliant with seafood or light poultry dishes.

Uncorked's WOW: Another Newbie!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Another Newbie: Masciarelli Trebbiano

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
New to ShopUncorked.com but Trebbiano is actually the second most widely planted grape in the world!

Trebbiano is also known as "Ugni Blanc" in France and is most commonly used for Brandy production.  Secondly,  you will find this grape as a blending grape rarely even mentioned in Italian wines.  But not here!  Masciarelli brings to market a 100% Trebbiano.

This wine is the perfect transitional wine between hot Summer days giving way to Fall nights.  For just over $11 per bottle, you cannot afford to not try this fun little wine!

Product Description

"Since the very beginning, Masciarelli was focusing on the potentials of the native wine varieties speaking the language of his people: Montepulciano and Trebbiano. In Masciarelli productive philosophy a great importance is given to the land and to its wine culture and tradition. The main passion of Gianni is Abruzzo, an extraordinary region, with intense flavours, tastes and scents that you can find in all its typical products: from pasta to wine, from extra-virgin olive oil to cheese, from meat to saffron, from truffles to pastries, to ventricina salami, to confetti." - Winery Notes

Masciarelli Trebbiano 2011 Tasting Notes

Hints of smoke, dusty florals and dark berries are well integrated on the palate and pleasantly persistent finish. Medium pronounced aromas. Fruity, flowery with hints of red cherry and rose petals. The wine displays the characteristic aromas and flavors of stone fruits with slight hints of florals.  Straw-yellow with greenish glints. Fragrant nose with hints of apples and apricots.

WOW: Paying Homage to Tempranillo

WOW: Wine of the Week

El Molet: Paying Homage to Tempranillo

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
New to the North Carolina market - and by virtue of ShopUncorked.com - to 39 other States:  El Molet Red Blend.

This is just our way of introducing you to your new favorite wine of the Fall.

Add this 90 point wine to your rotation for under $15 per bottle.

Product Description

"This project started as a tribute to Tempranillo by winemaker Joaquin Galvez and Aurelio. With Tempranillo forming the backbone of Spain’s most famous wines, the La Viña Cooperative in Valencia planted Tempranillo widely with the goal of reproducing some of the qualities of those famous wines. This project would not be possible without the wealth of vineyards and range of altitudes the coop has planted. Contrary to popular opinion that Valencia is too warm for Tempranillo, the cooperative has planted the varietal at a range of altitudes from 300 to nearly 900 meters above sea level, at these high altitudes, the Tempranillo ripens slowly developing a tremendous aromatic potential. The lower altitude vines take advantage of cooling sea breezes and the higher altitude vines cooler night to maintain and develop those aromatic qualities. The reason Cabernet Sauvignon is blended into the wine is to allow for a stylistic continuity vintage to vintage. " - Winery Notes

El Molet 2009 Reviews

"Sweet blackberry aromas come with fl oral edgings, and the whole is impressive. Full-bodied and balanced, with healthy, ripe black cherry and dark plum flavors. Finishes spicy, with a note of bitter espresso. 90% Tempranillo with 10% Cabernet Sauvignon. One of the best wines from Valencia."- 90, Wine Enthusiast

El Molet 2009 Tasting Notes

Inky ruby. Floral aromas of blackberry, tobacco, licorice and dark chocolate. Suave on entry, then firmer in the middle, with an edge of acidity to the dark berry, bitter cherry and mocha flavors. Slightly dry tannins add grip to the spicy, focused finish.
Blend: 85% Tempranillo, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon

Müller-Thurgau: Genetic Engineering in 1882?!

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
Remember that saying, "You learn something new every day?"  Today, you have ShopUncorked.com to thank for that!

This week's WOW marks the  debut appearance of Müller-Thurgau to ShopUncorked.com.  Unsure of what the Müller-Thurgau varietal might be - you are NOT alone!

Müller-Thurgau is a cross between Riesling with Madeleine Royale by Hermann Müller in 1882.  While this is primarily a varietal used for white blends, here you have the opportunity to taste a 100% Müller-Thurgau in all of its glory!

So don't just read this email and learn something new...order this wine and TASTE something new!

Product Description

"I was lucky to marry into one of our region’s most prestigious wine estates at a time when Alto Adige was becoming recognized as one of the world’s finest producers of superlative wines.
I jumped at the chance to take over the family’s two top estates, both located within the boundaries of our region’s best known wine villages – Castel Ringberg, which overlooks the Lake of Caldaro, and Kastelaz, a steep, south-facing hillside, Tramin’s major landmark which is covered from top to bottom in densely planted vineyards. The challenge in changing profession from architect to winemaker was at first daunting. In the meantime my wines have scooped some of Italy’s highest awards, including the much coveted “Three Glasses” from Italy’s most influential wine guide, by the Gambero Rosso." - Winery Notes

Elena Walch Müller-Thurgau 2011 Tasting Notes

Persuasive with light straw yellow color, pleasant aromas, discreet aromas of herbs, some nutmeg as well as slight notes of apricot.  Enjoyable freshness, youthful acidity and delicate structure characterize the palate.

Elena Walch Müller-Thurgau 2011 Pairings

A very drinkable apertif wine and an uncomplicated companion for light dishes.

Bread & Butter Pinot Noir 2012
Ah, the warm nights of Summer are starting to give way to more even keeled temperatures - and THIS wine should be your accompaniment!

At UNDER $14, this Pinot Noir shines as a prime example of the varietal.  It is not overly done, nor is it an exaggerated expression of what many now believe Pinot Noir should be.  Rather, it delights with its seamless fruit and flavor integrations.

This is a wine that will easily become a new favorite and will carry you nicely into fall and winter (hard to imagine, but think Thanksgiving Turkey with this one!).

Product Description

"Bread & Butter is inspired by the wines we like to drink everyday.  It’s what we reach for when we need something reliable, consistent, and delicious.  Classic California Chardonnay with a long, rich kiss of oak and butter.  Pinot Noir that has fruit and spice but with balance and elegance.  These are your go-to wines, your automatics, your Bread & Butter." - Winery Notes

Lock and Key Meritage 2010 Tasting Notes

"Fruit grown here is revered for its depth and personality, traits that make Lock & Key so rewarding. Cabernet adds power and backbone to the blend, Merlot offers beautiful aromatics and lush fruit, and Cabernet Franc imparts texture and a long finish—elements that are treasured in the finest wines.  Lake County wines exhibit beguiling aromas, opulently layered blackberry and plum flavors with hints of dark chocolate and tobacco spice, and an extravagantly silky finish." - Winery Notes

WOW: "Sexier than a Pinot Grigio. Naughtier than a Chardonnay!"

WOW: Wine of the Week

"Sexier than a Pinot Grigio.  Naughtier than a Chardonnay!"

Civello White Blend 2010
Civello White Blend is on a come-back tour with ShopUncorked.com!  Back by popular demand, ShopUncorked has added Civello White Blend back to our portfolio of products.  The vintage may have changed, but the Civello White Blend has a slogan that (and a plate profile) that is sure to catch your eye!  We just had to know: What could possibly be a sexier, naughtier white blend?!  Perfectly crisp and dry, this white blend is the answer to  thirst quenching after-pool refreshment.  And for just over $11.00 per bottle, it is a wine for daily consumption.  Bring this conversation piece home today!

Product Description

Sexier than Pinot Grigio, Naughtier than a Chardonnay.  Do you want to try something you have never tasted before?  Civello - on beyond Chardonnay. Change into something different. We strive to make white wines that are refreshing, exciting, irresistible and delicious. When is the last time you heard someone say that about Chardonnay or Sauvignon Blanc? We start with the Pinot Gris grape, known in Italy as Pinot Grigio, which we get from Monterey. Depending on the year, we add the Spanish grape Verdhelo which we get from the warmer Clarksburg area. We add a splash of the German/Alsatian grape Gewürztraminer which we get from California’s coolest counties. Occasionally we add a little Dijon clone Chardonnay from Carneros. Sometimes we even add a little Muscato Fruliano or Albarino.

Civello White Blend 2010 Tasting Notes

"We began with a traditional Alsatian mix of Pinot Gris and Gewurztraminer. The two grapes together become a mysterious mix of taste and aromas best described as baked nuts and spice. Feeling the blend was too traditional, Winemaker Ricardo d. wanted to enrich the Pinot Gris with tropical notes and flavors. Chosen were the white peach and tropical flavors found in the Verdelho grape when grown in California.  The taste is crisp, but full. The wine is dry." - Winery Notes

Civello White Blend 2010 Pairings

Blend with different foods especially hot, spicy, Latin or Asian.

WOW: NEW! Trentadue La Storia Red Wine Portfolio

WOW: Wine of the Week

New: Trentadue La Storia Red Wine Portfolio

La Storia Wines
The new products just keep coming to ShopUncorked.com!  Now offering three new Alexander Valley Red wines, at a price point that is sure to please!  This week's features are a Cabernet, Zinfandel and Petit Sirah, each of which are UNDER $25 per bottle...and the Zinfandel is coming in UNDER $20 per bottle!  If you are a fan of Alexander Valley, now is the time to try these fine wines with their rich history, deep, expressive profiles and outstanding value.

Winery Notes

"The Trentadue family arrived in Sonoma County long before their region gained a reputation as the Wine Country. Life-long, hands-on agriculturists, Evelyn and Leo Trentadue contributed significantly to the advancement of their region over the years. In 1959, the Trentadues decided to flee the developers encroaching on their apricot and cherry orchards in Sunnyvale, the area known today around the world as Silicon Valley. To preserve their way of life, these hard-working Italian ranchers purchased 208 acres of land in Sonoma County's then remote Alexander Valley.

The Trentadues were among the very first to plant new vines in Sonoma County since the days of Prohibition. Italians love their red wines, especially hearty reds like Carignane. In 1962, the Trentadue family began planting new Carignane vines in addition to the 68 acres of old vines already growing on their ranch. Now more than 35 years old, these vines are among the oldest producing Carignane vineyards in America. The family remains steadfastly devoted to this grape, and their wine ranks indisputably among just a handful of top ranked California Carignane. Case in point: At the 1997 West Coast Wine Competition, Trentadue 1993 Carignane was awarded both a Gold Medal and Best of Class.

This winery's story cannot be told without mention of the Trentadues' remarkable long-term relationship with Paul Draper of Ridge Vineyards. Their personal history began in 1952 when the Trentadues became Paul's neighbor in Santa Clara, after buying an old abandoned wine estate at the end of Montebello Road. Paul began buying fruit from their ancient vines, striking up a friendship which continues to this day." - Winery Notes

Trentadue La Storia Estate Cabernet 2010 Tasting Notes...$24.18 per bottle

"The Cabernet grapes that we select for this wine come from Block 901, which is by far, the best block of Cab that we have on our Estate. Often rounding out the blend on this Cabernet Sauvignon are the other Bordeaux varietals of Petite Verdot, Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Merlot. This wine is a classic Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, with a nose of ripe sweet cherry and plums, developed aromas of leather, licorice and hints of cocoa powder and molasses. With proper cellaring, this wine should age well for another 10 plus years." - Winery Notes

Trentadue La Storia Estate Zinfandel 2011 Tasting Notes...$18.18 per bottle

Extremely well balanced tannins, acidity and sweetness. Cherry, tobacco with a coffee finish.

Trentadue La Storia Estate Petite Sirah 2011 Tasting Notes...$24.18 per bottle

"Produced from grapes grown only on the Trentadue Alexander Valley Estate, this wine will impress with a black, inky color and a firm, rich and chewy mouth feel. The aromas often indicate cherry, blackberry and chocolate as well as an intriguing hint of cigar box. La Storia Petite Sirah exhibits a very big and firm structure that will allow for this wine to age gracefully for years to come. A true Sonoma County standout." - Winery Notes

WOW: Grape Trivia--What is Grillo?!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Grape Trivia: What is Grillo?!

Altadonna Grillo 2011
It is time to expand your wine knowledge (and palate!), this week's WOW is Altadonna Grillo 2011.  Grillo is a Sicilian grape variety that was once widely grown on bush-vines and used in the production of Marsala.  While it is still used for this purpose, the demand for Marsala has diminished and it is increasingly more likely to find this as a single varietal wine or in a blend with Chardonnay.

Grillo shows a range of citrus flavors, usually led by lemon.  The best part about this little known varietal is the price!  At under $12 per bottle, it is a convenient (and inexpensive) way to expand your wine horizons!

Winery Notes

"After a distinguished 25-year career working for some of the most prestigious, internationally acclaimed estates in Italy, Stefano Chioccioli – one of Italy’s leading enologists and agronomists – is working alongside his son Niccolo to produce wines under their own label: Altadonna. While Niccolo received a formal education in enology, following in Stefano’s footsteps and earning a degree from the University of Florence, he insists that it was his father who truly taught him the essentials of making and understanding wine. Together, they are producing wines that capture the essence of Italy and its diverse terroirs.
The Altadonna line is comprised of six varietal wines, each made from the principle grape variety of the respective region in its purity. From Pinot Grigio in the Venezie region to Nero d’Avola in Sicily, each wine is a reflection of this father-son team’s expertise and love for the land. According to Stefano, “The role of the winemaker is to enhance the land where he works, obtaining wines with the maximum quality expression of their area, applying a respect for nature with a modern winemaking approach creating richly balanced wines with fresh aromas. Quality is made in the details.” In developing Altadonna, Stefano and Niccolo sought out some of the top producers from which to source their fruit. They work closely with these producers to ensure the grapes are cultivated according to their strict quality standards. To eliminate the potential of crop deterioration during transport, the Chiocciolis work with trusted, local cellars in each region. They also closely monitor the vinification process to produce the highest quality wines. The winery takes its name from this duo’s beloved wife and mother, Anna Altadonna. In addition to adopting her maiden name, the brand features her silhouette on the front label of every bottle." - Winery Notes

Altadonna Grillo 2011 Tasting Notes

An indigenous varietal of Sicily, Grillo thrives in the hot, dry climate of the island. Fermented in stainless steel to maintain the freshness of the grapes, this Grillo is abundantly aromatic with lush notes of apricot, lemons and herbs. It possesses a seemingly salty quality, likely derived from the nearby sea.

Altadonna Grillo 2011 Pairings

Enjoy with a wide array of seafood dishes.

WOW: ShopUncorked.com EXCLUSIVE - Falcor Bon Jus!

WOW: Wine of the Week

ShopUncorked.com EXCLUSIVE: Falcor Bon Jus!

Falcor Bon Jus 2008
It pays to know people...wink, wink!

ShopUncorked.com is SO pleased to be the very first retailer outside of the winery (and the ONLY one online) to offer Falcor's newest endeavor and it is TRULY "Bon Jus!"

This White Rhone blend is our new Spring and Summer favorite!  Make sure to get this special blend while it lasts.  If there is one thing that we know about Falcor, it is that they are always keeping their portfolio (and us!) on our toes!

Winery Notes

"Michael Bee and Jim Peterson began working with noted winemaker Ray Coursen of Elyse to create the wines for Falcor in 1995. Ray’s long-term relationships with growers have enabled him to source some of the finest fruit from prime Napa vineyards for Falcor’s limited-production wines. Ray selects vineyard locations best suited to each variety, ensures that his growers practice meticulous vineyard management techniques and walks the vineyards constantly throughout harvest, picking only at the peak of ripeness. The resulting wines are fruit-forward, balanced by oak, with superior nuance and complexity. Our goal is to make wines that are in balance, with no one taste element dominating the others. Wines that are in balance are very drinkable on release and, if properly aged, will retain this balance while adding additional taste complexities." - Winery Notes

Falcor Bon Jus 2008 Tasting Notes

"‘Bon Jus’ or ‘Good Jus’ is a blend of Viognier, Marsanne and Rousanne from the Naggiar Vineyard in the Sierra Foothills.  This wine is intensely perfumed with expansive aromas of poached pear, melon and honeysuckle. While rich and densely textured, it finishes with refreshing acidity." - Winery Notes
Blend: 50% Viognier, 25% Marsanne, 25% Rousanne

Falcor Bon Jus 2008 Pairings

Bon Jus can be paired with a warm fire, loved one, a creamy St. Andre or triple cream brie and a fresh baguette. It’s unique Piña Colada and apricot flavors make it also pair very well with an apricot tart or wood fired apricot and mascarpone galette.

WOW: Wine of the Week

NEW to ShopUncorked.com: JaM Cellars Red Blend

JaM Cellars Red Blend 2010
It is time to JaM!

John and Michele Truchard are the owners of Jam Cellars. You may recognize some of their work from John Anthony Sauvignon Blanc (a ShopUncorked.com Client favorite!).  John is the eldest son of Tony and JoAnn Truchard, wine pioneers in California's Carneros district. The first plantings by the Truchard's were in 1974 when John was two. He has grown up amongst the vines accumulating knowledge to work and understand vineyards.

What's best about "JaM"min' with this little blend?!  The cost is LESS than $13.00 per bottle!

Winery Notes

JaM Cellars inspired and created by John and Michelle Truchard. JaM is a Petite Sirah based blend, aged in oak for about 6 months prior to bottling.  The slight amount of residual sugar in this wine pushes the limits of fruitiness.

JaM Cellars Red Blend 2010 Tasting Notes

"Dark, dense and creamy with complex aromas of black plum, ripe cherry and pepper merging with tobacco, coffee and dark chocolate.  On the palate there is an explosion of dark, super ripe, wild blackberry with just a hint of cigar box and exotic spice.  A pure fruit bomb, complete from the beginning to the long, lingering finish." - Winery Notes

WOW: Wine of the Week

White Light'ng: Bennett Lane "Turn 4" White Blend

Bennett Lane Winery "Turn 4" White Blend 2010
Bennett Lane Winery owners Randy and Lisa Lynch have worked very hard not once, but twice to take a passion and turn it into a thriving business!

As a former marketing executive, turn race car driver, Randy now sets his sites on the wine business.  Try this Sauvignon Blanc / Chardonnay blend today for UNDER $12 per bottle!

Winery Notes

"At Bennett Lane Winery we are taking active steps to promote sustainability and responsible winemaking.  To that end we have implemented the following standards within our own vineyards as well as with our growers.  We feel that these practices not only help to produce exceptional grapes, but are also friendly to our environment here the the Napa Valley.  We take great pride in preserving this special place in California.  Overall, the timing of the 2009 growing season was fairly typical for Oregon. A warm and dry summer gave way to several high heat spells in late August and early September. This pushed sugars up earlier than usual, but still required further time and patience to wait for flavors to catch up in the ripening process. Picking was in line with average Oregon vintages." - Winery Notes

Bennett Lane Winery "Turn 4" White Blend 2010 Reviews

"Offers appealing pear and fig flavors that are fleshy and round, with a juicy, ripe quality and details of floral and spice notes, especially on the finish. Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. Drink now. 4,410 cases made." - Wine Spectator
"Sweet and forward in pineapple, peach and lime flavors, this is a blend of Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. It has good acidity and a clean, spicy finish." - Wine Enthusiast

Bennett Lane Winery "Turn 4" White Blend 2010 Tasting Notes

This refreshing California white wine is the perfect partner to our popular Turn 4 Cabernet Sauvignon. With aromatics of honeysuckle, white peaches and a hint of the tropics, this is an incredibly fruit forward and bright wine. On the palate there are rich flavors of mango and ripe peach, balanced by refreshing acidity and a lively clean finish

WOW: Spanish Flair!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Spanish Flair:  Raimat Albariño 2012

Raimat Albariño 2012
FINALLY!  Warmer weather is not just wishful thinking...it is here!  Now is the time to start grilling, enjoying fresh fruits and vegetables and dining al fresco!  Raimat Albarino is a fresh fit for all that spring and summer have to offer.  This crisp, pear-driven Albarino can easily be enjoyed with your favorite Asian flair or just as an aperitif on a sunny afternoon!

Winery Notes

The Raimat estate was founded in 1914 by Manuel Raventós with his purchase of a large desert tract 100 miles north of Barcelona. The anticipated construction of a canal from the Pyrenees would allow water to reach this arid zone, and over decades Raventós transformed the estate into one of Spain’s most remarkable wine properties. Innovation was a cornerstone of his philosophy, and in1975, Raimat introduced some of Spain’s first single-varietal wines. In 1988, the tiny Costers del Segre zone was made a DO, spearheaded primarily by Raimat. The estate vineyards extend over 5,000 acres, planted with both native and international varieties and are cultivated sustainably to maintain optimum vine health.

Raimat Albariño 2012 Tasting Notes

Raimat produces wines that are an amalgam of classic Spanish style and contemporary expressiveness realized through constant innovation and a non-interventionist spirit. The wines show delineated varietal character with a clear, articulated terroir stamp, with the lightest influence possible imposed in the cellar. The white wines are fresh and crisp, fermented at cool temperatures to preserve fruit aromas and flavors, and finished without oak contact. This wine, pale yellow in color with greenish hues, is 100% Albarino. Intense aromas of citrus, peach, dried flowers, and spice carry onto the palate, which is vividly fruity and fresh and underscored by bright, balanced acidity.

Pichot Vouvray 2011: A New French Favorite!

Domaine Pichot Vouvray Domaine le Peu de la Moriette Chenin Blanc 2011
Look NO FURTHER than this week's WOW for your new favorite!  This Vouvray is the perfect companion to your Stir-fry, your grilled peppers, your Thai or Sushi fare!

Light, semi-floral and perfect for all of the fresh vegetables that will be gracing our supermarkets shortly!

Winery Notes

Domaine Pichot is an amalgamation of the properties of the father (Jean-Claude) ‘Coteau de la Biche’ and the son (Christophe) ‘Peu de la Moriette’, hence the different labels bearing the name Pichot. The estate is now run by Christophe. Pichot’s wines are well known for the brilliant quality of the stunning sweet wines, although their dry and demi-sec wines are also superb. They have an enormous capacity to age gracefully with careful cellaring conditions. These are remarkably good value wines that will also provide great satisfaction from a young age.

Domaine Pichot Vouvray Domaine le Peu de la Moriette Chenin Blanc 2011 Tasting Notes

100% Chenin Blanc. Golden raisins on the nose and on the palate. Grape juicy, like table grapes concentrate. Easy to drink, already well-balanced with some elements of cloves, butter tarte tatin and a touch of maple sugar. Good fruit extension with some grapefruit and apple skin on the finish.  The Pichot Vouvray is a classic 'slightly dry' white, Estate bottled from Chenin Blanc grapes in the Loire region. Low yields, hand harvesting and barrel fermentation are employed to give the wine its authenticity. They call it 'slightly dry' in France, although we would call it 'off-dry'. The aromas are honeydew, peach juice and a hint of spice. The palate is juicy and fresh, and the acidity balances the slight residual sugar in the finish.

WOW: Not Just TV Dinners, Swanson

WOW: Wine of the Week

Not Just TV Dinners:  Swanson Vineyards

Swanson Vineyards
While wine drinkers may not first think of TV Dinners when approached with the name "Swanson," that was the norm in the early 1950s when first the Swanson name made a splash.

Today though, the Swanson name is VERY well know for its quality red wines and ever expanding portfolio.  Uncorked is pleased to have had the opportunity to offer three of their selections to our clients.  Enjoy!

Winery Notes

For more than half a century, the Swanson name has been recognized primarily for frozen food products, as in the famous TV dinners the family launched in 1953, which, at that time, was a groundbreaking innovation in the food business.
Twenty-five years ago, the Swanson family chartered another innovative course, this time into the world of wine. Commencing in the mid-1980’s, they were one of the earliest producers of Napa Valley Merlot.

Today, while its wines are extraordinary, the mission of Swanson Vineyards is straightforward: to celebrate the simple pleasures in life, made better with wine. And the winery continues to evolve into something even more extraordinary. By collaborating with some of America’s finest cultural talents, Swanson Vineyards invites its guests to reinvent how they live and entertain with wine and its many accoutrements.

Swanson Pinot Grigio 2010 Tasting Notes

"Bright, fresh pear and peach fruit mingle with litchi and Meyer lemon aromas in the complex nose of this wine. On the palate, these aromas are translated directly into the generous flavor profile. There is a nice weight in the mouth due to the synergy of the Oakville Estate components: Pinot Grigio and Chardonnay." - Winemaker Notes

Swanson "Alexis" Cabernet 2008 Tasting Notes

"The 2008 Swanson Alexis Cabernet Sauvignon has a deep ruby color.  The wine was not fined nor filtered, in order to maintain maximum flavor intensity and texture.  On the nose, super-ripe black cherry and cassis mingle with blackberry and plum.  Initial flavor is juicy, with sweeter concentrated black fruits, yielding to a firm, yet balanced underlayment of ripe, supple tannins and integrated French oak.  Overall, the wine exhibits what we consistently strive for in making Alexis Cabernet -- layers of nuanced flavors, a velvety texture and a persistent finish.  This wine will continue to age gracefully through at least 2020." - Winemaker Notes
Blend: 86% Cabernet, 12% Merlot, 2% Petit Verdot

Swanson Oakville Merlot 2008 Tasting Notes

"The 2008 Swanson Oakville Merlot is a charming wine, reminiscent more of the Right Bank of Bordeaux than Napa Valley. The nose offers black cherry, plum, and dried red cherry with notes of well-integrated sweet oak and mocha. Firm, ripe tannins characteristic of our Oakville Estate vineyard fill the palate nicely. In the mouth look for raspberry, black cherry, and red licorice. The Petite Verdot contributes a graceful top note of verve and spice. Velvet-smooth and long on the finish. Should continue to improve in the bottle with the optimum drinkability continuing through 2017." - Winemaker Notes
