Product Description

The Moillard family has been cultivating vines in Nuits-Saint-Georges since the French Revolution. The arrival of the railway in Nuits-Saint-Georges opened up new commercial opportunities and the Maison Moillard began its activity as wine merchants in 1850.
In 1870, Symphorien Moillard’s son died while serving with the French Army in Algeria. His sister, Jeanne Moillard, took over the family trade and continued the tradition of the Maison Moillard.
In 1873, she married Maurice Thomas, himself an owner of Burgundy vineyards.
From generation to generation, the Thomas family extended the properties, buying up precious plots and developing the trade.

WOW: "Merlo's" Making Pinot?!

WOW: Wine of the Week

"Merlo's" Making Pinot?!

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010
Okay, my Californian experts - have you ever visited Hyampom Valley?  Hyampom Valley is a remote river valley hidden amongst the inter-coastal mountains of Southern Trinity County in Northern California.

Here, in Hyampom Valley reside the Merlo Family,   located along the banks of the wild and scenic South Fork of the Trinity River and at the base of South Fork Mountain, the longest contiguous ridge in the continental United States.
"Merlo Family Vineyards was founded on the concept that quality wine is grown in the vineyard. 'We are committed to making wines that are true expressions of the varietal fruit from which they are made,' says Ray Merlo. The unique growing season of the Hyampom Valley produces exceptional fruit with a high natural acidity resulting in very structured wines with deep, elegant, and yet, fresh, fruit flavors. A minimalist approach is taken in the wine cellar, allowing the wines to clearly reflect the varietal character and distinct terroir of Hyampom Valley. The Merlo's believe that the only way to truly make great wine is to grow great fruit." - Winery Notes

Product Description

"The Merlo Family Vineyards are located on the riverbanks of the South Fork of the Trinity River. Surrounded by 8,000 mountains, the vineyards are higher than most California vineyards, at an elevation of 1,250 feet. The valley floor has alluvial soils which allow excellent drainage and produce elegant yet complex flavors in the fruit. The surrounding hillside soils are shallow na#ve clay which create bold, well-structured wines. The late growing season allows for slower ripening and longer hang time, resulting in full, concentrated flavors." - Winery Notes

Merlo Family Pinot Noir 2011 Tasting Notes

"Dark, rich, garnet color and aromas of Bing cherries and lilacs. The palate presents fruit flavors of concentrated red currants and simpler fresh plums, and are well-integrated with the balanced influence of subtle new oak and minerals." - Winemaker Notes

Merlo Family Pinot Noir 2011 Pairings

The 2010 Pinot Noir pairs beautifully with roasted hen, farm-crafted cheeses, or grilled salmon.

WOW: Keeping The Euro-Trend Strong, Vietti Barbera!

WOW: Wine of the Week

Keeping The Euro-Trend Strong: Vietti Barbera!

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010
Okay, okay...ShopUncorked.com will move Continents next week!  But for now, we are pleased to introduce our first true Italian Barbera!

And what better way to do that than with a tried and true family in it's fourth generation of winemaking: The Vietti winery.

Unsure if this is the wine for you to try?!  Just look at our tasting notes - it is PERFECT for these crisp fall days and nights and will pair perfectly with many dishes to satisfy our foodies!

Product Description

"The Vietti winery, now owned by the family's fourth generation, is based in the small medieval village of Castiglione Falletto.  In 1990, Alfredo and Luciana's son Luca joined the family business as winemaker after working at California's Simi Winery, Opus One, Long Vineyards and Bordeaux's Mouton-Rothschild.  Total production is currently 17,000 cases.  The estate's vines are from 10 to over 90 years old.  Designation: estate-bottled Barbera d'Alba DOC." - Winery Notes

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Reviews

"Bright, dark red. Sour cherry and flowers on the nose. Juicy and on the lean side, with good cut and thrust to its moderately ripe fruit flavors. Not at all a round style of dolcetto but really scrapes the palate clean. In a thirst-quenching style."  - 88, International Wine Cellar

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Tasting Notes

Ruby purple color with ripe red cherry aromas with hints of mineral and vanilla. A dry, medium bodied red wine with refreshing acidity (making it perfect to pair with food) and soft tannins, the Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne is well balanced with good integration of oak, good complexity and a finish of more red cherries.

Vietti Barbera d'Asti Tre Vigne 2010 Pairings

Antipasti, rich salads, grilled seasoned vegetables, hearty soups, pastas or with breaded veal, pork, chicken with light sauces.
