WOW: John Anthony Vineyards

WOW: Wine of the Week

John Anthony Vineyards

Chandon Nautical Summer
The Truchard family is VERY well known in California - their involvement in the wine industry began in 1887.  Since their debut in Texas (yes, Texas) making wine - the family has amassed over 400 acres of which 280 acres are planted.  It is no surprise that John Anthony (Truchard) would also continue in this family business.

Product Description

"John Anthony Vineyards was destine to become a reality. From early on in his life, John Anthony Truchard walked vineyard rows, brushed dirt from his knees, and picked grape skins from his fingernails. He was meant to create handcrafted wines while focusing on growing the best fruit possible. He knew he wanted to do it differently. Gone were the days of purchasing a forty acre estate, building a winery, and planting vines. He instead would lease select land, evaluate soils and microclimates, and plant only what would strive in the choice locations.
Today John and Michele Truchard own and operate this successful brand. They feature small vineyard sites from the Oak Knoll District, Carneros and Coombsville regions, and showcase their wines in the downtown Napa tasting lounge. They manage a small team of dedicated team members and push them to create something special with each and every client interaction. John and Michele have redefined the traditional Napa Valley experience with the introduction of custom vineyard tours, late night tastings, and an incredible line up of events." - Winery Notes

John Anthony Sauvignon Blanc 2013 Tasting Notes

The 2013 John Anthony Sauvignon Blanc is sourced only from vineyards I planted and farm here in the Napa Valley.  Fermented primarily in stainless steel and likely one of the last Sauvignon Blancs harvested in the Napa Valley the wine exhibits the classic ripe melon and tropical flavors you have come to love.

"MARCO?" - Malbec...!

Chandon Nautical Summer
No longer can ShopUncorked.com hide this PHENOMENAL wine!  The 2013 is back with a 92-point rating from Wine Spectator and is priced competitively to find it's way into your home!

Product Description

"In 1999 Susana Balbo crafted a line of wines to showcase the ripe fruit expression of her sustainably-farmed Mendoza vineyards. The philosophy is a simple one: grow great grapes and make wines that are true to their place. Minimal intervention during the growing season and through harvest allows the true fruit character to develop. Combine this with Susana's winemaking skills and the result is wines that express the powerful fruit flavors, the ripe tannins and the incredible length and balance that can only come from this one place: Mendoza." - Winery Notes

Ben Marco Malbec 2013 Reviews

"A balanced and refined red with blueberry, blackberry and hints of cloves. Medium to full body, fine tannins and a fresh finish. Drink or hold." - 92, Wine Spectator

Ben Marco Malbec 2013 Tasting Notes

Beautiful deep purple color with perfumed aromas of ripe red fruits and roasted coffee beans. It is lush, full-bodied and penetrating on the palate with loads of chewy, currant jam flavors, bright acidity, and a touch of grip on the almost savory finish. This wine really unfolds with some air so try not to slurp it down in a rush, and it shows why the Argentine people are in love with Malbec. Some Bonarda was blended in for greater complexity and to achieve better balance.

Ben Marco Malbec 2013 Pairings

Pairs well with a wide range of foods including beef, sausages, spiced or grilled pork, veal, medium-strong cheeses, and meat-based pasta sauces.

Ringing in Fall Temperatures

Chandon Nautical Summer
It's official: Fall temperatures are here!  Our nights are cooling down and it is time to heat it back up with some new red wine favorites!  New to ShopUncorked.com is Chris Ringland Shiraz!  ShopUncorked.com is pleased to share this 90-point wine for UNDER $25 per bottle with our clients!

Product Description

"For the Barossa, Winter of 2012 and the build up to vintage 2013 saw a return to the normal conditions, after the exceptionally mild and wet 2011 season.
Ample subsoil moisture helped to sustain the vineyards during a relatively dry Spring, resulting in moderate vine vigor and average bunch numbers. Ripening conditions during the Summer-Autumn of 2013 were near perfect for Shiraz. Occasional rainfall events kept the vines refreshed. The grapes were healthy and sweet, with rich, ripe tannins. It was a relatively early vintage." - Winery Notes

Chris Ringland Shiraz 2012 Reviews

"Supple, sleek and appealing, with layers of black cherry, plum cake and sweet leather flavors slipping into a polished finish. Drink now through 2019." - 90, Wine Spectator

Chris Ringland Shiraz 2012 Tasting Notes

"The nose exhibits aromas of blueberry cobbler and ripe plum followed by dried cranberries, violets and rose petals. The palate displays layers of ripe strawberry, cassis, and vanilla." - Winery Notes

Spring Mountain Chardonnay: Schweiger

Chandon Nautical Summer
Loyal ShopUncorked.com Followers:  Are you seeing a trend?!  ShopUncorked.com is working VERY hard to bring some of the last remaining wines in their 2012 vintage to your attention - 2012 was a FANTASTIC year for wine and wine production - if you see it, stock up on it!

Product Description

"The 2012 vintage is our nineteenth release of Chardonnay and our first in a screw cap closure. We strive to strike a balance between fruitiness and complexity in our wines. Our goal is to always express the fruit of our vineyard first; why work hard in the vineyard only to mask the true beauty with cellar practices. Therefore, we skip malolactic fermentation.  Once harvested, we selectively use the tools we have at our disposal as winemakers to shape and complement the wine; surlies aging, and French oak cooperage, both new and old." - Winery Notes

Schweiger Spring Mountain Chardonnay 2012 Tasting Notes

"Our 2012 Chardonnay is a full bodied wine with true varietal characteristics, hints of pear, kiwi, citrus, and apricots, and delicate undertones of oak and tropical fruits.  The body of the wine is rich and supple, filling the mouth with flavors.  The true nature of Spring Mountain Chardonnay comes through in the mineral character, more reminiscent of a classic Mersault than your typical California Chardonnay." - Winery Notes

"Radicle" Wine - Literally!

Chandon Nautical Summer
This week's WOW REALLY lives up to it's name: It's "Radicle" for ShopUncorked.com to offer this 2012 (scoop up the 2012 vintage while you can!) Oregon Pinot Noir for just $21.45!

Product Description

"In botany, a 'radicle' is the earliest emerging root to develop from a seed, sending itself into the ground to create strength and take nourishment from the soil so that the plant will grow strong and spread its leaves. For wine lovers, 'Radicle Vine' wines are a tasty introduction to Lady Hill wines, delivering unexpected levels of quality and value that show what True Northwest wines are all about.  Radicle Vine wines offer rich flavors and robust character for satisfying drinking, by themselves or in pairing with fine foods. Radicle Vine wines are always an easygoing and affordable Northwest pleasure!
Lady hill works closely with a small number of selected Willamette Valley vineyards who farm their piont noir with exceptional care.  In some cases these are legendary vineyards, in other case they are more akin to undiscovered gems.  Both vineyards are represented in this wine. The core of this wine comes from Freedom Hill Vineyard, located in the Coast Range foothills. Owned and farmed by Dan and Helen Dusschee, Freedom Hill is one of the most respected pinot noir vineyards in North America. Added to this is pinot noir from the Hettwer Vineyard, a small vineyard near Silverton, Oregon that grows exceptional fruit. Together these vineyards produced a pinot noir of power and balance in 2012." - Winery Notes

Radicle Vine Pinot Noir 2012 Tasting Notes

"Deeply-hued, rich purple color with fushsia edges is the first thing to note in this wine.  Matching the depth of color, the aromas rising from the glass are full of dark berry fruitiness complemented by hints of baking spices and a foundation of freshly turned garden soil.  In the mouth saturated flavors of blackberries and black raspberries are broad and vibrant on the palate, with mouthwatering acidity.  There are accents of anise, graphite and dried basil in the background.  Tannis lend a firm structure, but are well-controlled.  The finish is long and lingering, with hints of mint and a lip-smaking tang at the end.  While this is a big-boned pinot noir with a forward character, there is also an elegance of balance that speaks of pure Willamette Valley pinot." - Winery Notes
